About This Project
Ardua St, Etobicoke – Load‑Bearing Wall Removal & 26‑Ft Steel Beam Installation
The Ardua project was a well‑organized structural renovation where the homeowners wanted to open up their main floor by removing three interior walls—two structural and one partition. With the building permit already issued and demolition completed before our arrival, the site was fully prepared for the structural phase.
The design required a 26‑ft steel beam system supported by HSS 3.5” round posts, including one post that continued into the basement and sat on a newly poured concrete footing. Before starting, we provided the homeowner with a Certificate of Liability Insurance, issued directly by our brokerage in their name and property address—an important reassurance for clients undertaking major structural work.
The result was a perfectly flush ceiling that opened sightlines across two sides of the home, dramatically improving the flow and feel of the main floor.
Project Scope
- Removal of three walls (two structural, one partition)
- Installation of a 26‑ft steel beam structure
- HSS 3.5” round steel posts for point loads
- Basement post anchored on a new concrete footing
- Certificate of Liability Insurance issued directly to the homeowner
- Coordination with engineering and city inspectors
- Structural implementation completed in approximately one week
Engineering & Structural Execution
The engineering solution required a long, continuous steel beam capable of carrying loads from multiple directions. Proper load transfer was achieved through strategically placed steel posts, including one extending into the basement and supported by a new footing.
Key structural elements included:
- Long‑span steel beam installation
- HSS 3.5” round posts for vertical support
- Basement footing for proper load distribution
- Seamless integration with existing joists
- Fully flush ceiling finish across the open span
Installation & Timeline
The structural phase was completed in roughly one week. With demolition already handled by the homeowner, our team focused on beam installation, levelling, and preparing for inspection. The city inspection passed without issue, allowing the homeowner to continue managing the remainder of the renovation independently.
Final Result
The completed structure delivered a wide, open‑concept main floor with a perfectly flush ceiling and improved sightlines throughout the home. The project stands out for its clean execution, efficient coordination, and the dramatic improvement it brought to the home’s layout.
