My original wooden support columns were rotting and needed replacement. I reached out to Aldo structural who came in and replaced the wooden support columns with structural steel columns. Alex, the owner, was very professional and did an amazing job. The final result is what I wanted and the service overall was amazing. In addition to replacing the columns Alex provided the engineered drawings to go with it. I would highly recommend Alex for this type of work.

I contacted Alex about a renovation I was in the middle of, the Reno plans were pre designed. Demolition was done. The engineer who did the design plan made a massive error in which way the floor beams ran. When I contacted alex to see if he could install these beams he said no problem and had his engineer fix our drawings to make it possible for our walls to still disappear, completed the job within our budget as well. There is a very sold built steel beam structure on the main floor to the basement! Impressive work for sure and would highly recommend Alex and his crew for any structure repairs or modifications!

I have an attic that I wanted to convert into a master bedroom with a bathroom. Not knowing if it was even possible, I instructed Aldo to come and give me there advice/opinion on there project. They did an incredibly thorough job of inspecting the attic and provided me with an invaluable wealth of information concerning the job. I asked all the questions I wanted, some of which were not even structural engineer related. They above and beyond, and would recommend them.

My wife and i bought a year ago an investment property. We didnt expect the market to change. But we decided to renovate it regardless, thinking long term. We wanted to make the house the most attractive in the neighbourhood, for when the market will recover. After talking to various contractors, we decided to hire Aldo Structural. Contacted Alex for walls removal on the main floor, creating an open concept kitchen-living room layout. Alex was offering structural drawings as part of his services which was very convenient as I didnt have to look for a structural engineer specializing in residential buildings myself. Structural drawings were received in a couple of days, signed by the engineer which allowed us to proceed with implementing bearing walls removal. Alex and Philip came on time every day and conducted work in a professional and neat manner, observing safety and high execution standards. Support steel beams were installed in literally one day once delivered by the manufacturer. Alex also did all the correspondence with the city on my behalf, including obtaining the city permit and passing inspection. The Aldo team did an outstanding job replacing the beam supporting a 100 year old house, involving removing the existing support pillar and installing a new support post and footing in order to increase the usable space and properly support and level the floor above. This project also involved sistering a joist and installing a lintel above the cold room and was completed within a week. It was clear from the start Alex knows his business inside and out and takes pride in completing work the right way. What sets him apart: expertly navigating the permit process, open and timely communication, always being punctual, working with the engineer to develop the initial plans and handle any surprises along the way, obtaining custom made steel components with exceptional turnaround time from the vendor, and even going above and beyond with a few additional improvements I hadn’t initially even asked for!

After discovering cracks on my ceiling last fall, I spent weeks to find the contractor, some gave me no reply, no show, some even told me it was an easy patching job. Fortunately, I found Alex, who response right away, took it seriously and got the job done in the right way. Wall removal and ceiling job for old house is tricky, you will find new surprises during the process, like mine, you really need someone like Alex, who is experienced and capable to provide solutions to solve those problems on site, one by one. My project was to replace a beam which had been installed a few years prior because of renovation being done to my 2nd floor bathroom. When we had initially purchased the place, the previous owner had removed a wall between the living and dining room to make it open concept without putting any additional support in. Over the years as I lived in the house, I noticed that the 2nd floor was sagging but I thought it was due to age of the home. I had decided to renovate my 2nd floor bathroom, the contractor noticed that the floor was sagging and recommended that I put in a beam on the main floor which I did. After approximately 4 years after the work was done, I noticed that the sagging started to happen again. I decided at which time that I seriously needed to investigate it, so I started doing research online as to what the cause maybe and started contacting various companies. I initially thought that my foundation was sinking so I had a professional company come out and the completed a detailed examination and advise that my foundation was perfectly fine but recommended contacting a structural engineer. I didn’t know anyone, so I started googling and found several companies. The first company I contacted, I had the guy come out and I felt like he was just telling me anything that he thought I wanted to hear to get the job but not what I needed to know. When I contacted ALDO, we spoke briefly at first but then he called me back and we had a more detailed conversation. I explained the issue to him, and he walked me through several different scenarios. I sent him some pictures and video that evening. Aldo came out a several days later and he did a very thorough examination of my place and I mean thorough. He spent almost 2 hours looking at every inch of my place and even sit down with me to explain in detail what he had found and the way to remediate the issue. He took the time to walk me through step by step and explain the process to me from start to finish. He even walked me through the process of obtaining a permit and explained the importance of having a proper permit for the work. The timing of this project came at a very stressful moment, when we all were working from home but wanted to sell and move to a larger house. Due to obvious liability and pricing situations, I couldn’t put up the house for sale in those conditions. It is important to get the job done the right way the first time as it will save you a lot of time and money. I have learned the hard way the importance of having proper engineering drawings and proper implementation process and as well as using the proper resources for the work. ALDO structural responded very promptly to our needs, did a detailed assessment of the situation, prepared the structural drawings, and obtained the building permit in record time. They also had their insurance company issuing us a liability certificate directly on our name: extra piece of mind! The implementation was flawless, and inspection passed with flying colours! After the work was completed, I now had to put my place back together to get it on the market, ALDO introduced me to his professional network: we ended up hiring that team of realtors, who came in also with a full package: they finished the renovation, house cleaning, staging and sale. I would hire ALDO again for any future projects that I may have and strongly recommend their services for your future structural projects. We had absolutely no choice but to look for someone who’d save our house reno! Thats correct! We engaged with Alex at the last minute when our kitchen reno company refused to deal with the load bearing wall. Looking at the reviews, i called Alex and he was at our house the same evening. We do large high-end custom homes. A lot of our projects like this 7000 sf house in Forest Hill was a renovation, which required opening large sections of exiting bearing wall. Throughout our renovation, I have not yet met anyone as committed as Alex and he sets the standard for a 10/10 review. Alex presented us with multiple options, was completely transparent about costs and made a few visits to our home before the project started to ensure we captured every detail and we were completely comfortable with the plan. While renovating the main floor of our house, a new long beam was installed to hold the whole roof over the kitchen/living area. It was necessary in order to demolish two old kitchen walls and make the whole space completely open and more modern. Aldo Structural Contracting did an amazing job, better than we could have hoped for. It was not an easy project, to make sure the whole roof will be hold safe after removing old walls that were holding it. The team approached it very seriously, making sure all safety measures are in place and no risks are taken. Once we decided to take on our first major renovation, including knocking down two load bearing walls for an open concept main floor, we were nervous. We knew we had to find someone we could trust to help execute our vision. After days of research Alex at Aldo Structural was the first contractor we called. He came over and was very patient with us and took the time to walk us through all of the details involved in the job from beginning to end and answered all of our questions – there were A LOT. He made us feel comfortable and really showed us he knew what he was doing. We learned a lot about what we were getting ourselves into from Alex but we wanted to do our due diligence and meet with other contractors before we committed, which Alex himself recommended. We did just that and quickly realized that Alex does structural work on a daily basis versus other folks who sort of, sometimes, ran into structural work that they outsourced to others as part of bigger jobs. These other contractors were unable to explain the details behind how they would implement & execute the project like Alex did. After meeting with a few of these we quickly called Alex back with deposit in hand! The work commenced on the agreed upon time and proceeded as Alex laid out. Work was completed on time, there were no surprises that Alex and team were unable to overcome, and within the budget we initially agreed to. There were some nuances to our project as we are in a semi-detached with a party wall and we could not plan everything to the last detail until we started, however, Alex communicated this at the beginning and had a contingency plan for all of the possibilities. We ended up removing the two load bearing walls, putting in 2 steel I beams (1 packed to carry additional load weighing at ~900lbs), 2x metal posts, 1 concrete pillar, and reinforcing a steel beam in the basement to carry the weight of the post above. The framework inspection went off without a hitch. The inspector commented on how well the job was executed and the overall professionalism of the work. I give Aldo Structural & Alex an 11/10 and would recommend him and his crew for any structural work!

Our project consisted of various repairs and structural changes to our cottage. It was a long list accumulated over many years. Unfortunately all local contractors were giving us astronomical estimates with availability over 8-12 months ahead. Then family friends recommend Alex and his crew. We had a preliminary consultation and appeared very clear his attention to detail and process oriented approach, excellent communication skills and scope of work description. Although the project was far away from their typical service area, we were very happy they accepted to take it as a work-vacation opportunity. The craftsmanship was simply spectacular. Alex was great to work, very professional and did a great job. There were some complexities to the job, which he worked with his engineer to figure out the most economic method to fix. He was also great at communicating with ourselves and the city.

Many construction projects don’t go as planned, especially with some surprises hidden in a 65 year old house. Alex quickly made the necessary adjustments and he and the crew worked overtime to finish the project by the designated completion date. No complaints, no additional charges and a solid piece of work. Alex and his team did an excellent job removing two load bearing walls at out property. I’ve dealt with a lot of contractors and vendors both personally and professionally and very few of them can measure up to Alex. He was efficient, on time, and on point through the entire project, starting with permit acquisition. Alex did a fantastic job! I wanted to build a custom solarium for my tropical plant collection, a project for which I had only a vague vision and very limited understanding of the actual work involved. Alex was extraordinarily helpful in working out the nuts and bolts, guiding my decision-making in areas where I had little experience and going out of his way to find creative solutions for the many difficulties associated with realizing this one-of-a-kind project in a very tight space. The final result is beautiful as well as functional! Alex also removed an interior wall in a separate part of the house, exposing and cleaning an aesthetically attractive brick portion that had formerly been hidden by plaster. We presented him with the difficult task of removing a load bearing cinderblock wall, preparing and pouring two concrete footings, and installing two steel posts and an 18 foot steel beam. One of the most difficult decisions for a homeowner during a renovation is to select a contractor with the right skills who has recruited the right talent to complete your project. My project involved a 30’ load bearing wall removal and a new post to be relocated in the basement. My home was built in 1978, a typical 4 bedroom 2 car garage. Needless to say things like basement posts and beam sizes in the basement were undersized by today’s standards. Aldo Contracting not only met my exceptions but surpassed them in all areas. One of the most difficult decisions for a homeowner during a renovation is to select a contractor with the right skills who has recruited the right talent to complete your project. My project involved a 30’ load bearing wall removal and a new post to be relocated in the basement. My home was built in 1978, a typical 4 bedroom 2 car garage. I was looking to convert a wall with 2 oversized windows to a 14 foot bi-folding door (the first stage of our new indoor/outdoor living space). Understanding that the project required structural work, I researched a number of companies on Home Stars. Alex from ALDO Structural is one of the contractors I discussed the project with. I had a video call with Alex from Aldo Structural Contracting before actually starting the job. Alex presented us with two alternatives, based on the pictures, videos and home plan drawings. He also had a third solution in case the finished basement had some hidden surprises for us. He qualified my own solution which was a compromise that in the end turned out to be a non starter. Once the project passed the approval phase, Alex and his team moved impressively quickly and with high precision. They planned ahead their work, then positioned tools, materials, including long LVL beams, and people to cope with the small space (as this was a reno, appliances, furniture and other obstacles were in the way). Alex applied engineering methods to measuring, dimensioning, cutting, building structures and so on, while explaining to me the reason behind his decisions. As an engineer myself, I can only highly appreciate the logic and reasoning in a hands on situation as no two renovations are the same. Alex minimized the removal of carpentry, tiles, drywall to make room for the new supporting beam installation and also cleaned up the space after. The job concluded in one long day, keeping a promise made by Alex when he described the scope of work. Alex made sure the next team was provided with temporary plywood covers, all required screws were planted, the framing was complete for the remaining wall, so drywall will follow easily after and also offered to re-position the range hood exhaust higher. I am very pleased with the work done by Aldo Structural and confident the reno will continue on without issues.

I had a very big Reno which required 4 metal beams, 9 LVL beams, 1 new footing and many posts. Alex showed up with samples and demonstrated his knowledge about structural framing at my home. I went with Alex because he also tried hard to work within my budget and he still delivered excellent professional results. His crew of 4 put up all of the beams and posts in just 12 days ready for welding! The city inspector and other contractors commented on the professional work done on the beams. I would highly recommend Alex for any structural framing job but I would note one area of improvement - that he communicate directly with the engineer instead of the me (the home owner) about minor adjustments to the original permit approved drawings due to unforseen circumstances when the demolition revealed and presented new unforseen issues. I had some structural work done and Aldo and his employees were very efficient, punctual, clean and very helpful in the planning of my renovation. I would recommend he to all my friends.

We are doing a kitchen Reno and in order to extend our kitchen we had to remove a structural wall. After reviewing the drawings from the engineer (that was referred by Alex) Alex took the time to further explain the options we had based on the engineer’s drawings. After understanding each option and which would be more structurally sound we decided to replace existing LVL beam with a steel beam in order to completely remove existing wall. We had originally decided on an extended LVL beam but after further discussions decided on the steel beam instead. Knowing that this Reno was a time sensitive project Alex was able to deal with the steel manufacturer last minute and get the beam delivered without any delays.

After negotiating the price and before any work began Alex again took the time to explain every intricate detail of the work that needed to be done and how it was going to be done. He also told us exactly how much time was involved and when he would have the job completed by.

Everyday Alex’s team would arrive on time and ready to work. As a 3 man crew Alex did an impeccable job with every aspect of the job. It could have been a messy job as a cement footing needed to be build in the basement after the old one was dug out. Alex took extra precautions in order to try and keep the dust level to a minimum with all the concrete sawing that took place. He was able to reduce the amount of dust and keep in just the area of work without it spreading all over like it usually does.

Alex and his team did an impeccable job on the beam and the footing and cleaned up every day after each part of the construction was completed indoor and out. He left the place immaculate once completed. Not only did Alex do a fantastic job on what he was paid do do but on the preparation part of the job when taking walls down he had found some building flaws from the builder that again with perfect knowledge was able to explain the effects of the flaws. He also went above and beyond his job and after explaining to me what I needed to do to fix it he went ahead and fixed it before completing the entire job.

Overall Alex and his team did a fantastic job and made everything look brand new and better than the builder quality. The team was efficient at what they did and they did very professionally without leaving a mess anywhere. They also took extra precautions not to destroy my existing granite floors with all the heavy machines that were used to get the job done. They also completed the job on time as they said the would.
